Jane has been a resident of Lexington, Kentucky, for most of her life. She is a graduate of Henry Clay High School and the University of Kentucky. She and her husband Steve, former Governor of Kentucky, live on a small farm outside of Lexington. The Beshear’s have two sons. Jeff, who is an equine veterinarian in Virginia, and Andy, who is the current Governor of Kentucky. 



Jane has been a life-long horse enthusiast. Besides fox hunting for many years, she was an Eventing competitor for 25 years and currently is competing in Dressage. Jane has been a board member of many organizations in Lexington and Kentucky. She has served on the Equestrian events Inc board most years since 1979. She also serves on the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation and has served on the Kentucky Horse Park Commission in the past. Jane has been an active supporter of the Kentucky Horse Park since 1983. She has been active in developing and promoting trails, including horse trails, across Kentucky for tourism opportunities. She also founded a breast cancer initiative, Horses and Hope, that has provided cancer screening opportunities for people in the horse industry.
