About Mary Wathen

Mary was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Lexington, KY. She attended Lexington Catholic High School and the University of Kentucky. 



Mary was fortunate to be living and working at the Kentucky Horse Park during the 1978 World Three-Day Event Championships, and she joined the EEI board in 1983. She started working for Fayette County government under Mayor Scotty Baesler in 1982 and worked for 22 years with the city, also serving under Mayor Pam Miller. During her tenure with the city, Mary oversaw many of their larger special events, including the Fourth of July celebrations, St. Patrick’s Day Parade and many more. 


After retiring from the city of Lexington, Mary went on to work for Governor Steve Beshear as Director of Events. Mary now enjoys spending time with her family, walking and painting.
