Sandy is a native of Charleston, WV. She studied at the University of Kentucky, earning a degree in Modern Languages. She also has her interior design degree. Sandy works in the long-standing family business, Suff's Furniture. She continues part-time as one of the owners. 

Sandy has used her language skills in multiple events, starting with the World Championship Three-Day Event in 1978. Sandy has worked in this capacity with other events, including several Olympic Games and multiple World Equestrian Games, most recently in Pratoni, Italy, in 2022. 

Sandy has coordinated several mission trips to Mexico. She has served on the Board of Directors of Spindletop Hall, the Junior League of Lexington, on school site-based committees and was the parent representative on search committees for superintendent and other leadership positions in Scott County. With Equestrian Events, she served as secretary and was on the executive committee for 12 years.

In her free time, Sandy is an avid tennis player and continues to use the abilities she honed while playing tennis for the University of Kentucky.
